UNAGB’s annual UN Day Luncheon gathers leaders from the business, policy, and academic communities in the Greater Boston area for an engaging dialogue on world affairs and an opportunity to network with other globally conscious individuals and organizations.
UNAGB is thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker Ambassador David Donoghue, Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations.
Ambassador Donoghue was born in Dublin and received his BA in French and German from the National University of Ireland and an MA degree in German also from NUI. He spent a year as a lecturing assistant in the English Deparment of the University of Aachen in West Germany and also worked for a year as a junior lecturer in German at St. Patrick’s College.
On entering the Department of Foreign Affairs, he served in the Anglo-Irish Division, working a combined total of seventeen years on the Northern Ireland problem and Anglo-Irish relations. He was closely involved in the negotiations of the Anglo-Irish Agreement and the Good Friday Agreement.
Ambassador Donoghue has had postings to the Irish Embassy to the Holy See, to Germany, and the UN and has served in Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. More recently he was Political Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin, before being appointed Permanent Representative to the UN in 2013.
Attendees of the UN Day Luncheon represent individuals and companies who are actively engaged in global affairs, as well as who have a commitment to global education in the Boston community and a desire to foster dialogue among a diverse set of companies, peoples and nations.
Funds raised from ticket sales and sponsorships at the UN Day Luncheon directly support UNAGB’s community events and classroom-based Model UN academic program, which serve more than 5,000 participants annually in greater Boston.
