A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the United Nations Association of Greater Boston (UNAGB) has dedicated over 60 years to building a network of globally aware citizens in the Greater Boston area. With a core staff of 5 employees supported by a team of 5-8 college interns, we provide a high-quality Model UN programs and community events to more than 7,000 people each year. Program development is led by our education staff and funded by local grants, donations, and program fees.
Supporters like you are helping to build a multigenerational community of civic leaders. Thank you for your support!
What your donation supports:
Over the past several years, social and political discussions around important civic issues have become increasingly divided, creating a heightened atmosphere of aggression rather than understanding and compromise. Now, more than ever, is the time to empower the next generation of leaders to effectively engage in respectful dialogue about the world’s most pressing issues.
While civic engagement programs like Model UN have been around for decades, historically, this type of academic enrichment program has only been available to students that attended elite, private, and suburban schools because of their cost. As a result, fewer students from low to moderate-income area schools have had the opportunity to participate in the program. (Low to moderate-income area schools are defined as qualifying for Title I funding.)
UNAGB’s goal is to make programs like these accessible to all students, regardless of socioeconomic status. While non-Title I qualifying schools pay a fee to participate in our programs, support from donors like you make it possible to reduce (and sometimes even eliminate) the cost for schools that otherwise could not afford the program. With your support, even more students will have the opportunity to engage in global issues while building the skills to be the leaders of tomorrow.
In Our Community
UNAGB brings global affairs programs to Boston-area participants. Through our free community events, we inspire community members to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals both locally and globally. We also host a series of signature fundraising events, including United Nations Day events and an international Global Citizens Gala with local diplomats and leaders. In the 2018-2019 program year, we reached nearly 1,500 adults through our educational events, advocacy, and fundraising efforts.
