Fall 2012 interns at the 2012 UN Day Luncheon
Are you interested in global education? Do you want to learn the ins and outs of a nonprofit organization? Do you have Model UN experience? Do you enjoy planning events? If you answered yes to these questions, an internship at the UNA-GB is the internship for you!
UNA-GB Interns learn all aspects of producing and coordinating programming in a nonprofit organization. With four permanent staff members, our interns are given high levels of responsibility in planning events, compiling information, and assisting with educational outreach presentations. Our interns learn all aspects of producing and coordinating events in a nonprofit organization. Interns are an integral part of the UNA-GB team.
The background recommended for interns applying for positions with the office is experience in working, traveling or studying abroad, studying foreign languages or cultures, Model UN experience, working in a professional setting, utilizing social networks and other communication tools effectively, good writing skills, making presentations, and working with children.
As UNA-GB is a small organization, a premium is placed on initiative and the ability to work independently. Flexibility, ingenuity, and follow-through are essential. Outstanding candidates will bring a passion for the organization’s mission, and an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. Guidance is provided for all projects undertaken but interns are expected to have a high level of independence and an ability to function comfortably in a professional setting.
The time commitment is 20-40 hours per week. Priority is given to interns who are able to spend two or more semesters at the UNA-GB. While the internships are unpaid, they offer the interns valuable experience in a professional work setting and the opportunity to expand their network within the Boston community.

POSITIONS
All interns at UNA-GB assist in general office duties. In addition, each intern specializes in one area of UNA-GB's work. These areas are listed below.
Graphic/Web Designer
Graphics interns assist in web improvements, and other graphic design tasks including event invitations, programs, and logo design. Interns may be students or professionals with graphic design experience. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe PageMaker and Macromedia DreamWeaver particularly helpful.
Education
Education interns assist in the planning and implementation of Middle School and High School Model UN conferences, networking with MUN Clubs, etc and local universities and general assistance to the Education Director. Some interns may be assigned to be MUN trainers, assisting schools and teachers in preparation for Model UN conferences or in use of the Global Classrooms curriculum. Applicants should have Model UN experience.
Communications
Communications interns should be majoring in communications or a related field or have relevant experience writing press releases, using social media networks, and engaging with the media.
Events
The events intern will assist in office tasks, and will focus energy on one of UNA-GB's many signature events including UN Day Luncheon, UN Day State House Ceremony, or Consuls Ball. This will include a significant amount of research, sales calls, fund-raising outreach, and organizational skills. Having prior event management and/or development experience a plus.

UNA-GB is happy to consider students looking to receive academic credit for the internship; such applicants must demonstrate university supervisor approval upon in-person interview.
